The Lowdown on Summer Concerts at Deer Valley Resort

If live music and summer picnics sound like your idea of fun, it’s time to check out one of Deer Valley Resort’s outdoor concerts. Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah, hosts dozens of summer performances at its Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater, at 2250 Deer Valley Drive South. Here’s an insider’s guide on what to see, where to eat, and what to bring.

Tips for Attending a Concert at Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater

Bring a sweater! Once the sun sets over the ridge, Park City summer nights can get chilly. If you forget one, Deer Valley’s sundries shop in Snow Park Lodge sells clothes and hot chocolate.

Save up to 20% on lodging and concert tickets with the Deer Valley Concert Package. Call 800-558-3337 to inquire. The package is valid June 15 – September 3, 2018.

Plenty of free parking is available at Snow Park Lodge, but allow yourself enough time. Carpooling or taking Park City’s free transit system is recommended.

Concerts are held rain or shine, so check the weather and bring rain gear if necessary. In the rare event that a show is canceled due to inclement weather, picnic orders are still available for pickup after 6 p.m. next to the concession stand.

Coolers, glass containers and chairs are permitted. Animals are not. For ticketed shows, chairs must be less than nine inches tall.

What to See

The amphitheater hosts several evening shows a week during the summer, ranging from classical rock to opera, folk singers, and pop musicians.  Three different summer series offer performances each week.

The Utah Symphony | Utah Opera hosts the Deer Valley Music Festival, with performances on Friday and Saturday nights from June 30 to August 11, 2018. Highlights include Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster from Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes, Shrek the Musical, and more. Sutton and the Utah Symphony will bring you a thrilling evening of great music, singing, and dancing under the stars on July 21, 2018. Amos Lee and the Utah Symphony perform songs from his acclaimed album Spirit, along with other fan favorites on July 27, 2018.

Another festival favorite is the August 10 Utah Symphony performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.  Be ready for the live cannons!

The new Deer Valley Concert Series, hosted by Deer Valley Resort in conjunction with The State Room Presents, will feature five vibrant and energizing shows. The series will kick off with The Decemberists on August 2, with special guest Whitney. Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real co-headline a show on August 18 with M. Ward. The series will cap off with singer-songwriter Jason Mraz on Labor Day, September 3.

Mountain Town Music’s  Grand Valley Bank Community Concert Series features local musicians. It’s a fantastic midweek date night—ride your bike to the amphitheater, picnic, and dance on the grass. Plenty of families come, too.

What to Eat

The Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater is one of the rare venues that allows guests to bring their own coolers of food and drink, including wine and beer in glass bottles.  If you’re picnicking, you can either bring your own or order a bag for pick-up from the concession stand.

Deer Valley Gourmet and Deluxe Picnic Bags range from $32 to $47. They include such items as smoked salmon or beef short rib, artisan cheese, salad, baguettes and dessert. A vegetarian and children’s options are also available. To order a picnic bag, visit deervalley.com or call 435-645-6613.

It’s an easy option, since you pick it up from the concession stand, and it comes with plates, cutlery and moist towelettes. You can leave the cooler at home and just bring your blanket and chairs.

A concession stand also sells burgers, chili, sandwiches and salad. At the stand, you can also find a Deer Valley staple: the vanilla ice cream sandwich, with chocolate chip cookies and hot fudge. Note: The concession stand doesn’t serve alcohol, but you can exit the amphitheater and go next door to Snow Park Lodge’s Deer Valley Etc. store, which sells beer.

For some last-minute picnic items, Deer Valley Grocery~Café is also at the Snow Park area and offers gourmet grocery items, takeaway entrées, beer and wine. Dinner and drinks are served at the café until 7 p.m. daily and until 8:30 p.m. daily from June 15 to September 3, 2018.

For pre-show dinner and drinks, check out The Brass Tag in the Lodges at Deer Valley. Nearly everything is fired in a brick oven, and the bar has won awards for its creative cocktails.
