Deer Valley has always been my favorite place to ski but this year I’m nothing but sad about the changes taking place. Deer Valley has historically had the most incredible mountain atmosphere. The service was impeccable, the food amazing, and the best skiing around with great snow and groomers. What changed? Now it seems management has decided to turn Deer Valley into a Big Bear type party setting. The prime example is Silver Lake Lodge/Beach. Once a peaceful break in the sun now it’s an outdoor nightclub with DJ music blasting. Ikon passers are skiing around with speakers attached to their ski pants blasting music on the slopes and the once tranquil environment is now no different than Mammoth, Big Bear, or Stratton. I’ve always been happy to pay up for the exclusivity, lack of snowboarders, and limited ticket sales but it appears new management is looking to attract an entirely different crowd. Not sure about my plans for next year but I’m sincerely hoping that DV reconsiders their strategy.
